Larry McCammon
Kansas City Chiefs NFL Team Columnist
I was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1975. I have 11 years and counting in the U.S. Coast Guard working as an IT, in between catching the bad guys at sea. I’ve been married for 9 years to a beautiful and talented actress, Che` Lyons, from Washington D.C. And I’m currently stationed in New Haven, Connecticut; and am finishing a BA in General Studies with aspirations of Law School.
I love my KC sports teams- Chiefs more than others- and have found out recently that I love writing about them as well. I grew up playing about any sport available- pretending to be Steve DeBerg in the backyard, yet focused on wrestling and lettered all 4 years in high school. At 5’ 11” and 130 lbs. as a Senior, I asked the head football coach if trying out for the football team was possible… he laughed. Team went 1-8.
One of my favorite sports memories was the Monday Night Football game in 1994, when KC beat Denver in the last seconds. Watching the dual between Montana and Elway was classic. The family had already gone to bed, with the exception of my youngest brother; yet we woke them all with our celebration as Joe hit Willie Davis to win it with 8 ticks left on the clock. I bleed Red & Gold(Chiefs), Red & Blue(Jayhawks), and Blue & White(Royals); and carry a lot of pride in being from Kansas.
