Pouncey was one of the most sought out offensive linemen coming out of Lakeland prep school in 2007. He entered Florida University as the number 15th rated high school guard prospect accordingly to Rivals and Scouts.com.

Became only the seven true freshmen to start a game at Florida. Started 11 of 13 constest, all at right tackle, in 2007 Switched from guard to center during the 2008 spring practices. Started all of the Gators’ 14 games, including the BCS National Champions game.

maurkice_PounceyHe established himself as one of the nation’s best centers in 2009 with stellar campaign that saw him dominate in almost all 14 games he started for the club. His list of postseason honors includes the Remington Trophy, given to college football best center, and making several All American teams such as the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and The Sporting News.

Good athlete. Bens his knees well and slide up and down the line with ease. Usually takes excellent angles to block defenders on running plays. Shows good balance and body control. Makes up for lack of pure speed with good initial quickness and attack angles.  In fact, he is one of the quickest linemen of the blocks in this class. Sets up fast in pass protection. Has better-than-average stunt/blitz recognition skills. Has good, strong hands to push off bull defender. Experience in big time games. Has superior leadership skills.

Lacks speed (5.20est) and explosiveness. Would have trouble reaching blockers at the second level. Lacks base and lower body strength. Will struggle to contain most NFL nose tackles one-on-one. Must improve overall strength. Is tall and somewhat thin.

PROJECTION: Pouncey is an efficient center with plenty of upside. He is a good enough athlete who can play all inside positions. Is technical sound with solid work effort. Has all the tools needed to succeed at the next level.

An late riser up the draft boards, a mid first to early second round selection.

Perfect fit: Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints
